Adhered roofing systems are suitable for both new and refurbishment applications. Sika-Trocal Type SGK fleece backed membrane is cold bonded to the substrate virtually eliminating penetration by mechanical fasteners.

Mechanically fastened systems are suitable for both new and refurbishment projects of any size. Sika-Trocal Type S membrane is mechanically fastened using the Sika-Trocal disc, a system that fastens both the insulation and the membrane, thus reducing the fasteners required for a project by 40-60% compared with other systems.

A ballasted (gravel/paved) roof will generally require a stronger supporting structure than that for the exposed membrane one, but will allow the roof to be used as a trafficked or leisure use area.
Additionally a ballasted roof will provide a higher degree of sound reduction and, if covered with minimum 50 mm depth of gravel ballast or 50 mm thick pavers, is deemed to achieve an FAA fire rating.

Green roofs are becoming increasingly a prerequisite for planning approval, either through biodiversity action plans, flood risk reduction as part of sustainable drainage systems or legislation.

Sika-Trocal Type S-Vap 500E Vapour Control Layer provides an effective solution for applications below humidity class 4. Where a higher performance is required, such as swimming pools and green roofs, suitable solutions should be sourced from 3rd party suppliers. Where a bitumen based solution is chosen this must not come into contact with the Sika-Trocal membrane.

Sika-Trocal manufactures a range of adhesives for bonding Sika-Trocal Type SGK membrane to various substrates. These are the only adhesives suitable for bonding Sika-Trocal.

The majority of Sika-Trocal single ply membrane roofs are mechanically fastened by the use of a unique laminated metal disc that is solvent welded to the underside of the membrane. Unlike many other manufacturers Sika-Trocal does not supply fasteners.

Sika levelling and/or separation layers are designed to protect Sika-Trocal membranes from abrasion from beneath, abrasion from above or incompatible products, subject to specification.

When installing ballasted roofing systems, green roofing systems or casting concrete pads on Sika-Trocal membranes a protection sheet must be installed to protect the membrane.

Infrequent maintenance access on to an exposed Sika-Trocal membrane surface roof, such as for the regular biannual inspection of rainwater outlets, checking security of flashings etc, can be carried out without any special precautions.

Sika-Trocal roofing systems are engineered to eliminate the use of sealant to create a waterproof seal wherever possible, a process that aims to reduce future maintenance requirements as sealants typically have a service life of 10 years.

To compliment the speed of installation of the unique Sika-Trocal Disc system, and the highly efficient welding method, a number of pre-formed details are available.

To ensure the drainage system is compatible with the Sika-Trocal roofing system, and provides effective drainage, high quality injection moulded gravity fed rainwater outlets and scuppers can be used.
